The girls decided that they wanted to try tie dying - first we had to find white articles - we do not own any white things so off to Gleaners our local thrift store to find some treasures. Is was not easy - white items are not very abundant at second hand stores. Too many stains perhaps? we did find a few things. so with them in hand we gathered our supplies and started gathering, folding, twirling, and tieing with rubber bands. Then we used squirt bottles to squirt the colors onto the fabric. Janelle didn't like the primary colours given so mixed them up to make some pretty greens and purples too.
then the really hard part began...
we had to wait 8 hours before unraveling our bundles and seeing what patterns we had.
then we had to rinse and wash them then once dried we could finally try them on or alter them into something else.
Here's Janelle in her favorite creation:
and here she is in a large woman's t that she dyed then altered with roushing on the sides, and gathers at the shoulders so that it would fit her better.
We turned an oversized men's white polo shirt into a chic little halter dress for Emma.
We also tried another technique using bleach to "dye" a blue shirt into a cool tie dye pattern. fun but smelly technique.
all in all a very fun day was had by all. and now some new fashions just right for Summer.
