I've been watching the Vancouver 2010 Olympics both on tv and online. I've got to say that the coverage of these Olympics has been fantastic.CTV coverage of 2010 Olympics
At anytime you can watch any sport live - and if you missed anything you can see a full repeat, or just the medal winners, or highlights, or just the athlete you want to watch. With listings letting you know the complete schedules and lineups. It really is almost like being there!
It really has been wonderful learning for the kids too. We even looked up the first ever figure skating in the Olympics in London to see how different the skill and standards have become. It was hilarious to see how they marveled at a very simple jump. How "even a women could jump like the men". Now the triples and quads are awe-inspiring! and even more so considering I can't even move forward on ice skates. LOL
It is a little silly rooting for an athlete simply for living in your Country - not even always having been born here. Sometimes we pick another Country's athlete to cheer for just because. After all Canadians are not well-known to be huge medal contenders. But it does feel good to see so many medals being won by Canadians at these Olympics. The pride those athletes must feel being cheered on in their home Country must be incredible!
And just to get to see the gold medal winners from any Country is great too! These athletes can do things that I can only dream of. I am extremely athletically challenged at the best of times. So to see them beat their personal records is amazing. I've got to admit seeing some slips and falls is a little exciting too - it makes it much more unexpected. You never know what is going to happen or which Country will get the medals.
It is also sad to hear of the tragic death of that Georgian luger (may he RIP), of the many canceled tickets, and of the huge amount of protesting going on. But overall the games have been going well, I think.
I do miss living in Vancouver. We would have been within walking distance of Robson Square and would have seen the flames on our nightly walks. We would have attended many of the free events, and would be having a great time. Well, if I was feeling up to walking, being out, and hearing all the noise 24-7 that is. Still we would have made an effort to participate in that once in a lifetime event. Maybe even attended an Olympic event or two.
Still the next best thing to being there - perhaps even better (no rain, no waiting, no crowds, no money spent...) is getting to watch them at home.
So thanks CTV and the other newscrews who are covering these events. It really does help us catch the Olympic spirit. :) Gives us yet another reason to show that we are indeed proud to be Canadian.
I wonder if the paraOlympics will be covered as much? It would be great to get to see these incredible athletes in action.
Hope you all have been enjoying the Olympics and are catching the spirit of the games in your home!
